This training is for you if you have already experienced the Mush and loved it so much that you wish to bring the magic of Mush to your home town (or to join the facilitation team in a location where there is already a mush). It's a bonus if you are already an experienced facilitator of other events, but this is not a pre-requisite for the training. The focus of this training is specifically how to facilitate a Welcome Mush and includes all the necessary topics that will prepare you to host the event.
NOTE: This training is the first step towards becoming a member of the Mush Facilitator Community. The process to be Authorized to host "Official Mush Movement Events" may also include assessment and ongoing mentorship, and depends upon one's abilities, willingness to receive feedback/coaching, and demonstrated alignment with the Mush Community Values. All participants who complete the course are permitted to use the materials, exercises, procedures, and best practices to host their own "unofficial" mush events as desired. It's a grassroots movement, and we wish for it to spread!
The Mush is not just an event, it is a community with clear values and agreements, founded on the principles of safety, love, authenticity, and autonomy. In such an intimate space, many participants experience strong emotions, challenges, and opportunities for growth and resolution. Our aim is to create a container for this training that supports a robust emotional journey and allows all participants to be authentic, vulnerable, and fully self-expressed.
Following is a list of topics that we intend to cover during this facilitator training.
1. Community values and agreements; how to create the container.
2. Keeping the container; why it's essential to empower participants.
3. Poly-Vagal Theory ~ Nervous system regulation / co-regulation, up-regulation and down-regulation.
4. Rituals and traditions (Name circle, kitty catting, puppy wiggle, etc).
5. Non-verbal consent practices; invitations and response, subtle cues, managing physical distance and personal space requirements.
6. Mediation of interpersonal conflicts (specific strategies from Authentic Relating, NVC, Landmark, and others. Empathetic guessing, checking stories, using "I statements").
7. Non-verbal communication conventions for the Facilitation Team. Use our handy signs or develop your own.
8. Conscious & Clear Language, focusing on positivity.
9. "Problematic Participants" ~ how to Recognize, Assess, and Handle. Recognizing patterns and understanding yellow, red, and blue "flags."
10. Recognizing and de-programming freeze/fawn responses, encouraging Dynamic Movement, decoding body language, tone, facial expressions, and micro-expressions.
11. Registration and filtering new participants and potential community members.
12. Welcoming new members, buddy system, sponsorship. Balancing inclusion vs. discernment.
13. How to grow. The potential risks and benefits of Advertising. How to encourage invitation and word-of-mouth.
14. What makes a space "Safe"? Understanding the trade-off between safety and freedom. How "Freedom" operates within the context of Autonomy as a core value.
15. Monitoring and adapting to Group energy; knowing when to throw out the plan or when to "shake it up."
